Behind the Kit: The Story of the Glastonbury Basket

Some kits are carefully planned at a desk. Others… are designed on the sofa, while watching Glastonbury Festival with a crochet hook in one hand and a cold beer in the other.

The Glastonbury Basket Kit came to life during one of those classic rainy festival weekends - but this time, I was dry and cosy indoors. Years ago, pre little hooks, Mr Hook (my husband and occasional show sidekick) and I went to Glastonbury in one of the muddiest years ever. Think trench-foot vibes. After a chaotic, soggy but wonderful weekend at Worthy Farm, he swore never again… so now we “attend” from the comfort of the sofa. No wellies required.

But while watching, I was completely taken in - not just by the music, but by the colour, the energy, the sea of crochet outfits in the crowd. It reminded me just how joyful and expressive handmade things can be. I reached for some scrap cord ends I’d saved, started experimenting - and the Glastonbury Basket was born.

Waste not, want wow

This basket is made using waste ends from our other kits and makes - leftover lengths of Bobbiny recycled cotton cord that are too short to reuse for full-size projects but way too lovely to throw away. By mixing them into a patchwork palette of festival-inspired colour, this kit became both a creative reuse project and a celebration of crochet’s colourful, chaotic charm.

No two baskets are exactly the same - the colour combos may vary slightly depending on the offcuts we have and the way you choose to put them together, which means your basket is truly one-of-a-kind. Not an 'all the colours' fan? The kit is also available in marvellous monochrome.

  • A curated bundle of 5mm Bobbiny cords (made from 100% recycled cotton)

  • A bamboo hook

  • A full, easy-to-follow pattern

  • A stitch marker (to keep you on the right path when you're going round and round in circles)
