Duties, Customs & Taxes

Since 1st January 2020, the UK has no longer been part of the EU. This means orders sent overseas from our North Devon studio may be subject to customs or import duties. This will be charged once the parcel reaches its destination country. Legally these charges must be paid by the recipient of the parcel. Unfortunately we have no control over these charges and cannot tell you what the cost would be - as customs policies and import duties vary widely from country to country.

If you are a UK customer you will not be asked to pay any additional customs or duty fee once your package has reached you.

If you live outside of the UK, or you have asked for your items to be sent to a non UK address, you may be charged a duty fee once your package has reached customs. We will complete all necessary paperwork and customs forms to make sure your package passes through customs with as little delay as possible.

Please note, if you refuse the package once it reaches you - or you miss the delivery and do not attempt to pick up your package from your local depot - it could be sent back to us. If this happens we will be required to pay the duty on the package once it reaches us. We will then have to deduct the amount from your refund.

Customs duty is charged as a percentage of the total value of the goods. The duty rate percentage depends on the country the package is being sent to, but on average is between 5% and 9% (but can be as high as 85%).
I am afraid we have no control over the charges which is why we cannot include them in the cost of the item, or within the postage costs. Please contact your local customs office for further information before placing your order if you wish to find out how much the customs duty for your country might be.

We understand this can be frustrating, so if you have any questions please do contact us at tamsin@thelefthookery.co.uk
