One square turns into two… and before you know it, you’ve got a blanket big enough to cover your house (don’t worry, we’ve all been there).
A Little History Lesson (Don’t Worry, It’s Fun!)
The humble granny square first appeared in the early 19th century and has never gone out of style. Traditionally, they were a clever way to use up leftover yarn scraps - nothing wasted! But over the years, they’ve evolved into an art form, popping up in blankets, bags, clothing, and even city street sun shades.
International Granny Square Day started as a fun Instagram challenge, where makers from around the globe shared pictures of their squares to create one giant virtual blanket. Now it’s a full-blown celebration of creativity, colour, and community.
